De-escalation seminar (2hrs)

This short seminar includes:

Basic de-escalation theory plus practical application of de-escalation techniques.

Attendees will learn:

  • How to manage themselves when faced with an aggressive person, so they can effectively employ the techniques neccessary to successfully de-escalate that person.

  • Identify and discuss the most effective tools that can reduce or defuse tension, aggression, or conflict in different situations.

  • Prevent the situation from escalating further, including the importance of listening to really understand the other person’s fears and perspective. The use of ‘affect’ labelling, maintaining a calm demeanour, the importance of body language, the importance of tone, showing empathy and seeking peaceful resolutions through negotiation and collaboration. 

  • How to maintain their safety, the safety of others, and ultimately the safety of the agitated person.

  • How to promotion understanding, reducte hostility, and create a safer environment for all parties involved.

Learning outcomes:

Attendees will feel more confident in their ability to de-escalate an agitated client, to prevent escalation to physical violence.
